6. The Science of Strategy

As a chemistry major in college, I had a penchant for blowing things up in the lab. Just ask my former lab partners. I much preferred the theory and math of physical chemistry over separating organic compounds.

Enter – The. Best. Lab. Partners. Ever. My partners led in the lab, and I was happy to take point on report writing. We balanced each other well. Cooperate to graduate, right?

My early scientific training informs my approach to strategy development – from using an analytical approach, to probing the ‘why,’ to testing hypotheses, and making data-driven decisions.

Perhaps, more importantly, it impressed upon me the importance of building community. We are created to live in community.

I seek to grow relationships – from the bus stop to the board room. Personally, with friends as we ‘do life together.’ And professionally, wherever I go – in the Air Force, in corporate America, and now, as a small business owner.

It is critical to seek out other like-minded professionals to learn and grow.

Growing community can be particularly challenging for small to medium sized businesses, especially on the heels of a pandemic. But we don’t have to go it alone.

Be intentional – grow a network of relationships. They can serve as referral partners, mentors, and colleagues with the potential to join forces and go to market together.

So, what does it look like for you?

  • How are you testing hypotheses and making data-driven decisions in your business?

  • Is there a new community you want to create or join?

  • What is one thing you can do today to move toward these goals?

I help executives reclaim valuable time to focus on what matters most. This means leaders work ON the business instead of IN the business. Whether it's a 10-year vision, 3–5 year strategy, or 90-day action plan - we partner to achieve your goals.

If you want to break through to the next level in your business, drop me a message, and we'll arrange a 15-min call to see if I can help.

Be well.
