36. What's Your 2024 Plan?

1. BLUF

  • It’s time to start thinking about your 2024 strategy.

  • 5-7 goals. That’s it.

  • Clarify. Prioritize. Sequence.

2. START. STOP. CONTINUE.

Summer’s over.

Labor Day has come & gone.

Kids are back in school.

There are four months left to meet your 2023 targets.

Hopefully, you’re refreshed & ready to finish 2023 strong.

It’s time to put your white jeans away & gear up for fall...

AND It’s time to start thinking about your 2024 strategy.

As you clarify your 2024 business goals, consider personal goals as well.

  • What do I want to START doing?

  • What do I want to STOP doing?

  • What do I want to CONTINUE doing?

Carve out time now in your calendar – September & October are ideal – to hold a 2024 planning session.

  • Maybe you spend a few hours at a coffee shop clarifying your goals.

  • Maybe you hold a retreat weekend, alone or with your team.

  • Or maybe you schedule a strategy session with me.

Whatever it looks like, take time today to make it happen.

You’ll be happy you did.

3. The Paradox of Choice

Choice is a gift. But too many options can be paralyzing.

Psychologists call it The Paradox of Choice.

After returning from my deployment to Iraq, I went shopping for groceries.

Just picking cereal short circuited my brain.

(Yes, The Hurt Locker scene resonates.)

“Fruity Pebbles, Shredded Wheat, Kix, Cheerios, or Coco Puffs?? AHHHH.”

While deployed, I learned to live simply.

Consider the Containerized Housing Unit (CHU) I shared with four roommates.

Cozy to say the least, but I was thankful for shelter, which many didn’t have.

Despite the challenges of deployed life, there was beauty in the simplicity.

In business, as in life, too many choices – too many priorities are overwhelming.

If you develop your 2024 strategy & have 37 things to do, then that’s too much.

Remember, if everything is a priority, then nothing is a priority.

5-7 goals. That’s it. Clarify. Prioritize. Sequence.
