10. Fuel for the Journey
I crashed around 80 miles.
Figuratively not literally (thankfully).
Our goal was to ride a century through the Italian Alps.
It was my second Air Force assignment to Aviano, Italy. An Airman in my Avionics Flight was an Ironman triathlete and encouraged me to get into cycling.
So, I invested in a custom Italian road bike and spent weekends exploring the Dolomites.
A few months in, I started training for this one-day 100-mile adventure. Gradually lengthening rides to build endurance, leg strength, and the ability to sit on a bike for 6+ hours…
The day we set out was gorgeous and the first 80 miles went well.
I trained and planned fuel but hadn’t accounted well for the heat and final 20 miles.
As my body slowly ran out of energy, we stopped at a small café for a Coke and snack that spiked my blood sugar and enabled us to get home.
This experience taught me the importance of fuel.
It’s true in business and in life.
A fancy plan is not enough. I’ve seen a lot of great work gather dust on the shelf.
What is needed to fuel your strategy across the finish line? Focus? Training? Funding? Communication? Something else?
I talk a lot about 3 pain points small businesses face as they scale and grow - finding time, focus, and follow through.
As a small business owner, you’ve found the time to create the strategy. And you know what you want to focus on and when. But how are you following through?
It can be as simple as managing, measuring, and maturing via a consistent dashboard. Or revisiting your strategy on a weekly or bi-weekly basis for just 30 minutes to keep you on track.
The key is consistency.
So, what does it look like for your business?
How are you fueling your strategy?
What does follow through look like for your business?
What is one thing you can do today to drive greater clarity?
I help small technology and professional services businesses scale and grow. This means leaders work ON the business instead of IN the business. Whether it's a 10-year vision, 3–5 year strategy, or 90-day action plan - we partner to achieve your goals.
If you want to break through to the next level in your business, drop me a message, and we'll arrange a 15-min call to see if I can help.
To your success,
