Too often there is a lack of engagement or clarity.
Enter the 3 As - Align, Articulate, and Arm.
2. The 3 As
Whether you’re a small, medium, or large business or a non-profit, if you have a board, then you want it to be effective.
I’ve served as a Board Director and led numerous board development strategies.
Too often there is a lack of engagement or clarity.
Enter the 3 As to help your board effectively engage & advocate for your company’s future.
Align Skills – Be intentional about who you bring on and align their skills & interests with your needs. Is it funding? Strategic direction? Legal advice? Create a matrix of desired skillsets, roles, and experiences and proactively align towards them.
Articulate the Ask – What is the time commitment & the ask? Too often, directors onboard without understanding what they’re signing up for. It is 9 meetings per year, a financial commitment, and advocating within their network? Whatever the ask, be clear up front.
Arm with Info – Board members are busy and often serve on other boards. Give them a 30-second summary to effectively advocate. Then arm them with deeper info to access, as needed.
