55. The Value of a Strategic No

What’s Inside

1. A Strategic No

The power to choose is a gift.

In business, as in life, a Strategic No opens the Possibility of YES.

It may look like:

  • Yes, I will lead a Scout Troop.

  • No, I will not serve on the PTA.

  • Yes, I will focus on professional services.

  • No, I will not try to serve everyone.

Just recently, an opportunity arose to lead a strategic planning retreat.

Leadership may want to meet on a Saturday.

Unfortunately, that doesn't work for me in this season of life.

So, it may mean choosing soccer Saturdays over revenue.

But all revenue isn’t created equal & some is more expensive than others.

What’s your Strategic No?

Re-examine your telos & then build your business around it.

Start here with this free resource to...

  • Define success and your go-to market plan.

  • Clarify what you want to achieve over the next year.

  • Determine what you need to do in the next 90 days.

2. Love/Neutral/Can’t Stand

To help streamline your operations and more effectively implement your strategy, try the exercise below.

On a daily basis –

  • What activities do I love doing?

  • Where am I neutral?

  • What can’t I stand?

Doing what we love (Zone of Genuis) generates energy, creativity, and impact.

For activities that sap our energy, consider four options:

  1. Jettison – Is it actually needed? Can my business do without it?

  2. Hire – Does it make sense to hire for this work?

  3. Outsource – Can I bring on transactional support to get the job done?

  4. Training – Do I or my team need training to implement effectively?

Invest the time today to create the future business you want.
