57. How to Plan an Effective Leadership Retreat

What’s Inside

1. Ready, Set, Goals

I enjoy planning and facilitating leadership retreats for clients.

Each retreat provides an opportunity to reset, rejuvenate, and renew.

Here's a sampling of topics we cover:

  • Define Vision, Mission, & Values

  • Develop a new service offering

  • Create a 90-day plan

  • Improve cross-team communication

  • Clarify roles & responsibilities

  • Streamline processes to save time & money

Recently, I asked for client feedback on the impact of our work together. One of my favorite responses… "Our new service offering generated $20k in one day. Thanks to our session, we were able to hone our focus in our service offerings to work congruently with our new vision and mission statement." What’s even more exciting is that this offering is scalable & has potential to reach $100k in sales by this time next year – And it's just one slice of their overarching portfolio! Revenue generation is important – BUT… My heart truly smiles because this client found more joy in their work and stepped further into their strengths & deep expertise to help others succeed.

Make time to work ON, not just IN, your business - it's key to driving revenue, engagement, & impact.

2. The Keys to Success

  • Carve: Set the date. Block the calendar. Close the screens (all of them!) to eliminate distraction & focus.

  • Gather: Seek input beforehand to guide your agenda and 'pulse the room' before you meet. A concise 10-minute pre-retreat survey goes a long way and helps people invest in the process.

  • Plan: Define ahead of time what you want to accomplish and structure the agenda. Maybe it's a clear 3-year plan, defining your Vision, Mission, & Values, improving your team's communications, or a mix of these.

  • Build: Incorporate activities that help your team understand themselves more and how to interact with one another, and your clients, better. This free DISC assessment is just one tool.

  • Celebrate: Sprinkle in activities for everyone to laugh and have fun. We don't get enough real connection in our virtual world so seize this opportunity.
