14. 5 Tools for Your Strategy Toolkit

The Girl Scout Troop I co-lead recently visited our local firehouse. As part of earning the First Aid badge, the girls role played calling 911, watched firefighters gear up, and learned what to do in an emergency.

We then explored components of a First Aid kit and how to always be prepared. And, of course, we shared delicious Girl Scout cookies to show our appreciation of the firefighters’ time and service.

The experience got me thinking about a Strategy Toolkit. (Because who doesn’t think about strategy all the time?)

Five tools serve leaders well as they scale and grow a small business.

  1. NorthStar: Vision, Mission, & Values, near-term horizon and long-term stretch, go-to market plan, differentiators, measures of success, & potential obstacles

  2. 3-Year Strategy: Reaffirms your foundation and defines & sequences your Priorities and Goals

  3. 1-90 Roadmap: 1-year plan and 90-day roadmap, sequenced by quarter

  4. Dashboard: Visual tool to manage, measure, and mature, reviewed quarterly

  5. Key Activities: Program management tool to drive accountability & progress, reviewed weekly

What does it look like for your business?

  • Have you defined your Vision, Mission, and Values?

  • What do you need to do in the next 3 years? 1 year? 90 days?

  • Do you use visual management to manage, measure, and mature?

  • What is one thing you can do today to drive greater clarity?

I help small technology and professional services businesses scale and grow.

This means leaders work ON the business instead of IN the business. Whether it's a 10-year vision, 3-year strategy, or 90-day action plan - we partner to achieve your goals.

If you want to break through to the next level in your business, drop me a message, and we'll arrange a 15-min call to see if I can help.

To your success,

~Susan
